The Pyramids of Giza
Journey to the Last Surviving Wonder of the Ancient World
The Great Pyramid of Khufu
The Great Pyramid, or the Pyramid of Khufu, is the largest and oldest of the three Giza pyramids. Built as a tomb for the Fourth Dynasty pharaoh Khufu, its construction took about 20 years. It remained the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years.
The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx is a colossal limestone statue of a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. It stands on the Giza Plateau, guarding the pyramids. It is widely believed that its face represents the pharaoh Khafre, builder of the second pyramid.
